1. Access Technology

There are five essential technologies of accessing the internet: fiber, cable, satellite, ADSL, and dial-up technologies.

  • Fiber 

This is the fastest internet access technology, and it is widely used in many places where ultra-fast internet connection is required. It uses fiber-optic cables to transfer a large amount of electronic information across different computers within a short period. Most regular internet users can’t access this type of technology because it is costly.

  • Cable

This access technology is relative, high-speed. It uses TV service transmission cables, and it is most likely found in areas that have current or former TV service providers.

  • ADSL

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, ADSL, is a type of connection that uses copper telephone wires to transmit large volumes of electronic information in good time. It is similar to a dial-up relationship. However, the copper wiring of ADSL makes it a broadband internet access technology that is faster than dial-up technology. ADSL is typical, especially in areas where telephone companies are presently or previously found.

  • Satellite

Distance is a significant determinant of internet speed. The time it takes your computer to send information to the internet server is inversely proportional to the distance between your computer and the server. If the server is too far, the internet speed will be slower than when the server is very close. This is also the reason why wired connections have higher velocities than a wireless connection.
